The Chinese SIGINT sites are nothing new in Cuba and the Russian SIGINT site in Lourdes has been “decommissioned” for a while now. However there is new construction on the island and it has always fascinated me where they are located so I decided to map them out on QField on my phone with gps coordinates, pictures of their location pulled from Maps and a brief description of the site pulled from the CSIS website about them. I understand those are still there and not sabotaged because of counterintelligence purposes and the U.S. likes to see how the other Govs do their intelligence gathering. Now I could have had AI pull all the info and make a .gpx file for me and uploaded it into the QField app but I like doing things the hard way plus I want to learn so I added it all manually like a boomer (I am not a boomer). I’ve been eyeing the mini server racks a lot lately and the creative juices have been flowing. I’m on a tight budget so I can’t go out and purchase all the gear for it like some of the YouTubers do and drop $2k. I can however cut some 3/4” plywood, paint it, install some 4U rack rails and a couple of metal shelves. Add a couple of switches, a port patch panel, and a Dell OptiPlex running ProxMox. Make the proper connections and I have a home lab in a mini server rack running on my home network.

It doesn’t take much just get creative, if I had a larger 3D printer I would have printed it. However I had spare supplies from previous projects laying around and decided to utilize those to save time and money. Happy building .
